Send E-mail to Olive Garden

I've been swamped with 2004 office work. Estoy super ocupado!
But there's time for taking care of this now:
The Olive Garden features Gallo wines—including Gallo of Sonoma—as “wine partners” at its restaurants throughout the United States and Canada. In its television ads, this huge corporate chain says “when you’re here, you’re family.” Tell Olive Garden executives that their wine partner, Gallo of Sonoma, doesn’t reflect this motto. Matt and Gina Gallo continue to exploit more than 75% of their vineyard workers by refusing to provide health coverage.

Let the Olive Garden know you have pledged to boycott Gallo wines unless Matt and Gina Gallo and Gallo of Sonoma stop denying basic health coverage to the 75% of their workers supplied by farm labor contractors. The taste, quality and tradition of Gallo of Sonoma wines flow from the people who grow the vines. All Gallo of Sonoma farm workers deserve health benefits through their United Farm Workers contract.

Please e-mail company executives today. Ask them whether the Olive Garden wants to be linked with Gallo of Sonoma’s unscrupulous behavior that contradicts the Olive Garden’s message of “when you’re here, you’re family.” Tell the Olive Garden it should take the responsible stand and urge Gallo of Sonoma to settle with the farm workers.

Poetry in the Fields

Look at this absolutely wonderful painting by José Luis Ortiz, anonymous text, in the 2002 Social Justice Calendar. Alberto Pigola told me about the site. The art is uplifting and another invitation to join the struggle of migrant farmworkers. You can donate to the Catholic Migrant Farmworker Network. Also listen to very insightful streaming audio by some of the migrant farmworkers.

Onward/Adelante!

Radio Campesina, UFW

La Campesina Radio Network is an example of community radio, different from the "public radio" stations at university campuses, many of which play mainly European classical and are members of NPR. Radio Campesina was founded by Cesar Chavez and has a clear, direct, energy-filled identity -- the migrant farm working community. With 7 stations and several repeaters, the network's reach covers Arizona, California and Washington. Also look at the UnitedFarm Worker webiste. It is informative and provides ways of getting involved. You will be welcomed with an audio file that plays automatically, the voice of Cesar Chavez.

¡Sí se puede!

Radio Campesina

Radio Campesino is a US network of about 10 Spanish-language radio stations serving the newly arrived immigrants from Latin America and the farmworking communities. They are an exciting media art form and deserve attention and support. They don’t have a website yet, pshaw, but you can contact the President, Paul F. Chavez, pfchavez@ufwmail.com
